A New Direction
Extended-Replay has been in need of a change for a while now. What started as a gaming news and review site slowly morphed into a gaming channel aggregator for a select group collectively known as the XRP Crew. While this in and of itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I can’t help but admit that the site has lost its focus over the years. Fewer press releases and game trailers, fewer reviews, fewer commentaries. Fewer and fewer of everything that really drove this site’s traffic.
So, the time has come to deconstruct and rebuild the site. If you are reading this around the time of this announcement, you might have noticed that the site is fairly stripped down. This is to make room for features that are far more community driven that can be divided into two categories. First, features and content intended for our readers and viewers in general, such as articles, blogs, and vlogs. Second, features and content intended for our gaming community, Terminal Velocity Global Gaming.
So, until we get everything sorted, registrations are closed for the time being. In the meantime, we’re going to take this opportunity to answer a few questions we’ve received about the direction we’re taking.
Q: Why did you delete so much content?
A: We didn’t. Everything we’ve posted is still there if you know where to look.
Q: Why does the XRP Crew page only show MisterUltimate & Geraldo McDeryl?
A: Basically, Ultimate & Geraldo have been brainstorming these upcoming changes for over a year now. Everyone else either has other offline commitments or have platforms for their content that the majority of their time goes to. Couple that with XRP changing into quite a different site than it was when everyone joined the team, and it just didn’t seem fair to expect everyone to stay onboard and contribute until they’ve had a chance to see how things take shape.
As we said, we didn’t delete anything. All of the content from DKO, Starklaw, Deminizer, Tanzz, D3viousD3vil, Razorhog444, Crimz, QueenGamerVampires, etc. are all still published, and we’ll always consider them to be part of the team. However, everyone has commitments, and there are only so many hours in the day.
Q: Are the game reviews coming back?
A: Probably. Eventually. The main reason they are not part of the site at this moment is that we simply did not keep up with the sheer amount of submissions we received. Until we can guarantee consistency, game reviews will have to remain in the “nice to have” column.
Q: Where did the sponsored ads go?
A: While we appreciate the sponsors we had, seeing as they helped the site pay for itself, we decided to remove them for two reasons.
First, our sponsors agreed to support the site when it was in its old incarnation. Now that we are making drastic changes to the site, we didn’t feel it would be appropriate to keep running ads until the “new” site takes shape.
Second, at this time we are weighing whether or not was even want to use an ad model as a source of revenue. So, for the time being, site expenses will be directly covered by MisterUltimate.
Q: Does all of this mean you’ll be returning to your Youtube channels?
A: Not right away, and not in the same format as before. Youtube is not focusing on helping new homegrown creators succeed at the moment, and their ad model is so inherently flawed that it would be foolish to rely on them as a source of revenue.
That isn’t to say that we won’t have a presence on Youtube, but rather our content will not be Youtube centric, will not be designed around Youtube’s ever-changing algorithms, and for the foreseeable future will not be monetized through Youtube or an affiliated MCN.
Q: When will we start seeing new content?
A: We’re not putting a hard deadline on this. The new community focus has necessitated a lot of changes on the backend of the site, and getting everything running smoothly is our top priority.
We hope this answers any questions you all might have. These changes will take time to implement, and we thank everyone for their patience. We will try to do another update on our progress soon-ish. Until then, we hope you will all be blessed.
